Email covering letter

In the subject header!
i) Include your name
ii) If you’re applying for a specific advertised job, state which one - e.g. Jane Taylor applying for Customer Services Supervisor role
iii) If you’re not applying for a specific open job, try add some value to the message beyond just the fact you are applying for a job - e.g. Jane Taylor, looking for job, proven sales achiever
iv) If you’ve been asked to forward your CV. refer in some way to the circumstances behind this - e.g. Jane Taylor, CV attached as promised, re Compliance project





In the message box
Keep it short.
Be clear why you are emailing them.
Let them know why they should be interested in you, what value you can bring, or how you might contribute to them.
Make mention of anything which substantiates the value you can bring to their company in particular, or the specific job in so far as exceptional facts and figures.


Use short sentences, slim paragraphs, bullet points and be concise.
No more than 8 lines of text.


End your email with an upbeat expression such as “I’d welcome the opportunity to meet with you” followed by your name.
And be sure to include your contact phone number and email address.


Don’t forget to attach your CV. Even smart people make mistakes - don’t make one at the start.
