During his extensive experience as a headhunter and recruitment consultant, Robert Tearle has examined literally thousands of CVs and resumés.
The vast majority of these are below standard and fail to adequately present the skills, qualifications and aptitude of the candidates.
Most fall short in one or more of four key areas:
- Omitting their achievements and accomplishments
- Failing to align the CV to the job for which they are applying
- Making their CV too long
- Failing to have somebody else check the CV before submitting it
Taking this into account, we’ve given more points for questions about achievements and alignment than any other area.
We’ve given fewer points to those areas which, while still important, are either less significant in their impact or which few people are likely to get wrong.
We’ve deducted points for long CVs.
Although some of the answers may appear obvious, the questions are designed to highlight those areas in which even the smartest candidate is lacking, and to help them ensure their CV is among those considered for further attention.
