Get the recruitment agency working for you

I often hear the complaint that a recruitment agency isn't working hard enough for somebody.

The first thing I ask that person is how hard they are working for the recruitment agency.

They're a business, and they want to spend their time on people who will help them succeed in their goal of putting bums on seats in jobs.

Keep in touch with them. Show interest in suitable new jobs that appear on their website. Try to speak to the same recruitment adviser each time you phone up, and chat and joke with them occasionally.

That said, it's a common mistake to rely on one job search method. Don't forget to network, apply for jobs directly and scour job ads and jobs boards.

A new beginning

A new week, a new blog.

I racked my brains trying to decide how to start my new blog, before realising I was in the perfect position to start something new.

As a career coach, I'm either helping people re-evaluate their lives and deciding on a new direction, or helping them further down the career path they've already chosen – but in both cases, turning to a career coach is a first step.

I realised I needed to decide what I wanted my blog to be, and I've worked out that I want it to fill a number of roles. I want you to get to know me a bit better, to find me approachable, and to wipe away any apprehensions you might have about using a career coach.

I also want to comment on the current state of both the recruitment sector and the jobs market, keeping you up-to-date and informed with what's going on. And I want to be able to give you helpful career advice and tips.
